Search Result Ranking

I am doing a search for Digital Asset Management software and resources. In my Google Search I came up with 5,710,000 results to sift through. Since I don't know much about the DAM space I started looking at all links from the first 4 pages.

When I'm looking for a product or service should I be under the impression that the results with the highest ranking are necessarily a better solution for me than the ones on page 20?
